PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If your PGT sliding glass door is sticking, leaking air, or the rollers have given up, we stock the parts and do the repair or replacement work here in Orlando. Most PGT sliding door repairs run between $180 and $450 depending on the part, and full door replacements typically land between $1,800 and $4,200 installed. We carry PGT-compatible rollers, handles, locks, weatherstripping, and track assemblies on our trucks, so the fix usually happens in one visit.
Owners usually discover the problem the same way: the door that used to glide with two fingers now takes a shoulder. Or a lock that won’t catch. Or condensation fogging between the glass panes. In Orlando’s humidity and afternoon storms, these parts work hard, and when they fail, they fail in predictable ways. Our team at Hale Windows Orlando has been servicing PGT doors across the metro since 2009, and we can match the right part to your specific PGT series without guesswork.
- Most PGT sliding door repairs in Orlando cost $180 – $450 and finish the same day.
- Wrong rollers are the #1 DIY mistake. PGT uses series-specific hardware.
- We’re an independent service company, not a PGT dealer or affiliate.
- Every repair leaves with a written guarantee. If it fails, the second visit is free.
- Call (850) 613-9382 and a live person answers, 24/7.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT makes several sliding door lines, and the parts are not all interchangeable. The main series you’ll find in Orlando homes are the 5500 Series, 7700 Series, and the WinGuard impact-rated line, plus the older Eze-Breeze and SpectraGuard models that PGT discontinued but still show up all over Central Florida. Each series uses different roller diameters, track profiles, and lock spacing. If you grab a generic roller off a parts website, you’re gambling.
Here’s the gotcha we see constantly: PGT changed roller specs between production years on the same series. A 2006 WinGuard and a 2016 WinGuard may look identical from the outside but use a different roller housing. The only reliable way to identify the right part is to pull the door panel and read the roller housing, or check the door’s corner label for the exact model code. We do this identification as part of every service call before we quote you a price.
On OEM versus aftermarket: PGT-branded rollers and handles are well-made, but they cost more and aren’t always necessary. For rollers and weatherstripping, there are quality aftermarket equivalents that hold up just as well in Florida’s climate. For locks and multi-point hardware, we recommend sticking with OEM. That’s the part where a cheap substitute starts jamming within a season, and on a sliding door, a failing lock is a security problem, not just an annoyance.
We service PGT, plus CGI, CWS, and ES Windows sliding doors. If you’re not sure what brand you have, we’ll identify it when we arrive and quote from there.
Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing
- The door drags or takes muscle to move. This is almost always worn rollers. Over five to eight years in Orlando’s sandy, humid air, the bearings seize and the wheels flatten. Pushing harder grinds the track and doubles the repair cost.
- You hear a grinding or scraping sound when sliding. Flat-spotted rollers or debris packed into the track. By the time you hear it, the roller is usually past cleaning and needs replacement.
- The handle feels loose, or the lock won’t throw. PGT handle sets are tied to the lock mechanism with a spring-actuated latch. When that spring weakens, the handle goes floppy and the lock stops engaging cleanly. On a sliding door, this is a security issue you don’t want to sit on in Orlando.
- Water seeps in at the bottom track during heavy rain. Central Florida gets 50+ inches of rain a year, and the bottom track weatherstripping takes direct hits. When it cracks or shrinks, the water paths right over the track lip and onto your floor. Left alone, that’s how you get rotten subfloors behind the tile.
- Condensation fogs between the glass panes. The insulated glass seal has failed. You can replace the glass panel on many PGT models without replacing the whole door, but it’s a job for someone who understands PGT glazing channels, not a handyperson with a tube of silicone.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote in the Orlando market, based on the PGT parts we handle most often.
| Repair | Typical Price Range |
|---|---|
| Roller replacement (pair, installed) | $180 – $280 |
| Handle and lock set replacement | $200 – $350 |
| Track and threshold repair | $250 – $450 |
| Weatherstripping kit (all four sides) | $120 – $220 |
| Insulated glass panel replacement | $350 – $700 |
| Full PGT sliding door replacement (installed) | $1,800 – $4,200 |
What drives the range? Door size, PGT series, impact-rating requirements, and whether the track itself is compromised. Every quote we give is written down before work begins, and the number on that paper is the number you pay. No change orders, no “we found more damage” upsell. If a repair fails within the guarantee period, the second visit is free, full stop. That’s part of our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
We’re an independent Orlando service company that works on PGT products. We’re not a PGT dealer or a corporate PGT affiliate, which means we have no reason to push you toward a full replacement when a $240 roller job solves the problem.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely do before calling: clean out the bottom track with a vacuum and a stiff brush, wipe the rollers with a dry rag, and check for obvious dents or debris in the track channel. A surprising number of “broken” sliding doors just have a pebble jammed in the wrong place. You can also tighten the two screws on the inside handle plate with a Phillips screwdriver. That’s the extent of safe DIY, and it’s worth trying first.
Beyond that, the job gets unforgiving. Pulling a PGT door panel means lifting 80 to 150 pounds of glass out of a frame with exact tolerances. Get the lift angle wrong and you crack the glass, damage the frame, or injure yourself. The panel on an impact-rated WinGuard door is heavier than most homeowners expect, and it does not forgive mistakes. The same goes for swapping an insulated glass unit: the glazing channels are specific to PGT, and a bad fit means leaks, fogging, and a fragile door that rattles in the wind.
If you’re comfortable with cleaning and a visual check, do it. If the door still drags or the lock still won’t catch, call us at (850) 613-9382 and we’ll send someone who does PGT work weekly, not occasionally.
FAQs
Five to eight years, depending on use, exposure, and how clean you keep the track. In Orlando’s sandy soil and humidity, rollers on doors that open daily wear out faster than the same rollers on a vacation-home slider that’s used three months a year. If your door is over ten years old and still on original rollers, you’re on borrowed time. Call us at (850) 613-9382 for a roller inspection and quote.
Most door problems are repairable: rollers, locks, handles, weatherstripping, and even glass panels can all be replaced without buying a new door. The only time we recommend full replacement is when the frame itself has rotted, the track is bent beyond straightening, or you want to upgrade to impact-rated glass and your existing frame won’t accept it. We’ll tell you which path makes sense, with written pricing for both, before any work is scheduled. A free estimate is a phone call away.
Roller, handle, and weatherstripping replacements finish in 60 to 90 minutes on site. A glass panel replacement takes one visit to measure and a second visit to install, usually within the same week. We come prepared with the parts likely to be needed because we know the PGT series common in Orlando, and we photograph and document what we find so you see exactly what got replaced. Call (850) 613-9382 to schedule.
Yes. Our trucks carry the rollers, handle sets, locks, and weatherstripping for the PGT 5500, 7700, and WinGuard series, which covers the majority of PGT sliding doors in Orlando. If your door needs a less common part, we order it and typically have it in hand within a few days. We’ll quote you the exact part cost and labor before you agree to anything.
If your PGT sliding door is dragging, leaking, or won’t lock, call Hale Windows Orlando at (850) 613-9382 for a written free estimate. A live person answers every call, any hour, and you’ll know exactly who’s coming to your home because we send the technician’s name and photo before the truck rolls. Spencer Odell has been putting things right in Orlando since 2009, and if the numbers and the warranty language don’t back it up, he won’t say it.
