Mr-Glass Window Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
A complete Mr-Glass window installation in Orlando typically runs $450 to $1,150 per window installed, depending on the series, glass package, and whether the frame is being reused or replaced. We stock Mr-Glass-compatible installation components and can usually schedule the work inside a week. Most Orlando homeowners discover they need this service the same way: a window that no longer closes square, condensation you can’t wipe away, or a frame that’s started pulling away from the stucco after a few hard storm seasons.
This page is for Mr-Glass owners specifically. Not a general “we do windows” page. We’re going to walk through which models this applies to, what fails and why in Orlando’s climate, what a fair installed price looks like, and what’s actually involved. If the numbers and the warranty language don’t back it up, we won’t say it. That’s a rule we operate under, and it’s kept us out of trouble since 2009.
One thing up front: Hale Windows Orlando is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Mr-Glass directly. We install and service Mr-Glass products because they’re well-built, but we also carry parts for PGT, CGI, CWS, and other professional lines, which means we’re not married to any single brand when a better fit exists.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass has produced several window series over the years, and the installation components are not universal across all of them. The two most common series we see in Orlando homes are the Mr-Glass 7700 single-hung and the Mr-Glass 8800 casement and picture window combination. The 7700 uses a narrower frame profile, which means the sash balance springs, pivot bars, and tilt latches are sized differently from the 8800.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of homeowners: early 7700 models produced before roughly 2012 used a screw-in pivot bar, while later units switched to a snap-in design. They look nearly identical at a glance, but they are not interchangeable. If you install a snap-in pivot bar on an older sash, the window will drop when tilted in for cleaning. We’ve fixed that exact problem in College Park, Winter Park, and over near Lake Nona more times than we can count.
To identify what you have, check the spacer bar between the glass panes. Most Mr-Glass units built after 2010 carry a laser-etched code on the metal spacer: it’ll start with “MG” followed by four digits and a letter. That code tells us the glass package, the spacer thickness, and the production year. If you can’t read it, a photo of the window from the outside taken at a slight angle usually lets us identify the series. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Mr-Glass specifically: OEM balance springs and pivot hardware are the right call for anything under warranty or for coastal installs within a mile of the Atlantic-facing side, where salt air accelerates corrosion on aftermarket metal. For inland Orlando homes, a quality aftermarket balance system from a name-brand supplier performs the same and costs about 30% less. We’ll tell you which makes sense for your situation, and we’ll put that in writing before any work starts.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Installation Is Failing
Most installation-related failures announce themselves in one of five ways. Each has a specific cause, and knowing which one you’re dealing with determines whether you’re looking at a part replacement or a full re-installation.
- The window slides down on its own or won’t stay open. This is almost always a failed sash balance system. In Orlando, the springs inside the balance cartridge corrode faster than the manufacturer’s national average because our humidity sits above 70% for months at a time. On Mr-Glass 7700 units, we usually see this between years 8 and 12.
- Visible condensation or haze between the glass panes. Failed seal on the insulated glass unit. Once the seal goes, the argon or krypton gas leaks out and moist Florida air gets pulled in. No repair fixes this – the glass unit gets replaced. On Mr-Glass windows, the low-E coating (a thin layer that blocks heat while letting light through) also starts to degrade once the seal fails, so you get both fog and higher cooling bills.
- The window is hard to open or binds when closing. Frame warping or settling, common in Orlando’s clay-heavy soil. The original install may not have accounted for how much the frame would shift, or the window was never shimmed correctly. Older single-hung units with aluminum frames are particularly prone to this in neighborhoods like Colonialtown where homes date to the 1950s and 60s.
- Water staining on interior drywall below the window or on the sill. This usually means the flashing or caulking around the window’s exterior is failing, not the window itself. In Orlando, our afternoon thunderstorms test window seals harder than anything, and a flashing detail that was marginal at install will start showing itself within two or three storm seasons.
- A draft you can feel around the frame edges on windy days. The weatherstripping has compressed or rotted, or the original install didn’t properly seal the gap between the window frame and the rough opening. This is repairable without replacing the window in many cases, and it’s one of the lowest-cost fixes we do.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Mr-Glass installations in Orlando, here’s the price range you should expect before you call anyone:
- Sash balance replacement (parts and labor): $95 to $185 per window
- Insulated glass unit replacement (seal failure): $280 to $520 per panel, depending on size and glass package
- Tilt latch, pivot bar, or lock replacement: $45 to $120 per window
- Full window re-installation (existing window removed, opening re-flashed, window reset): $450 to $750 per window
- Complete replacement with new Mr-Glass or comparable window, installed: $800 to $1,800 per opening, depending on impact rating, glass package, and frame material
Those numbers include the part, the labor, and our written workmanship warranty on every install. If a replacement part fails, the second visit is free. If an installation isn’t right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: we make it right, no argument, no invoice. What drives the range on installs is mostly the condition of the rough opening. If the original construction left gaps or rot around the frame, that gets addressed during the install and adds labor. We’ll see that during the estimate, not after the job starts. The price we give you in writing is the price you pay.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things on this list are safe for a competent homeowner to address. Cleaning and re-aligning a tilt latch, tightening a loose handle, or replacing a compression weatherstrip are all reasonable DIY tasks. But sash balance systems on Mr-Glass windows carry real tension. If the spring cartridge releases while you’re working on it, it can take a finger off. We don’t say that to scare you – we say it because we’ve rebuilt the aftermath of a few DIY attempts gone wrong.
If the problem involves a balance spring, a pivot bar on a heavier sash, or the sealing of the window’s exterior flashing, call us at (850) 613-9382. The estimate is free, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a $95 part swap or a bigger job. That’s what we’d want someone to do for us.
FAQs
In Orlando’s climate, a properly installed Mr-Glass window should last 25 to 35 years for the frame, with the insulated glass unit typically holding its seal for 12 to 20 years. Humidity and afternoon storm cycles shorten the seal life compared to the national average, which is why we see more seal failures here than in drier climates. Call (850) 613-9382 if you’re seeing fogging earlier than that – it may be an install issue covered under workmanship warranty.
Most installation problems are repairable without replacing the entire window. A failed balance system, compressed weatherstripping, or a worn pivot bar are all part-level repairs. The exception is seal failure between glass panes, which requires a new insulated glass unit. An honest assessment of which category you’re in is part of any estimate we give, and that estimate is free.
A sash balance replacement or minor part swap takes 30 to 60 minutes per window. An insulated glass replacement takes about an hour per panel. A full window re-installation runs a half-day for one window, and a whole-house job of eight to ten windows usually finishes in two to three working days. We’ll give you a schedule before we start, not after.
We stock the common failure parts for Mr-Glass 7700 and 8800 series on our service vehicles: balance cartridges, pivot bars, tilt latches, locks, and weatherstripping. Less common items, like odd-sized insulated glass units, are ordered and typically arrive within four to seven business days. If your part isn’t on the truck, we’ll tell you at the estimate stage, not after we’ve opened up the window. Call (850) 613-9382 and we’ll verify stock for your specific model.
