CGI Window Replacement: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI window that’s fogged, cracked, or won’t seal, we can replace it with a CGI-compatible unit matched to your existing frame. Most Orlando homeowners pay between $450 and $1,850 per window installed, depending on size, glass package, and whether the frame itself needs work. We keep common CGI glass packs and hardware in stock, and we can get your replacement ordered and installed within a week in most cases.
The way owners usually find this page is frustrating: one day the window looks fine, the next there’s condensation between the panes, or a crack running from corner to corner, or the sash won’t lock into place after an afternoon thunderstorm rolled through. CGI builds impact-rated windows that take a beating in Central Florida, but seals fail, glass chips, and hardware wears out just like anything else. The good news is a failed part doesn’t mean a failed window. More often than not, we’re replacing a component, not the whole assembly.
Hale Windows Orlando is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CGI, but we’ve been installing and servicing their product lines across Orlando for years, and we know their specs well enough to get the match right the first time.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s residential impact lines in Florida fall mostly under the Estate Collection and the Sentinel series, with the Tribute and Estate 7000 lines showing up in a lot of Orlando homes built after 2010. Before you call, grab a flashlight and look at the corner of the glass or the side of the sash track. CGI stamps an etching in the glass corner with the product name, the Florida Product Approval number, and the date of manufacture. That etching is the single most useful piece of information you can give us over the phone. If we have a photo of it, we can usually tell you the exact model line before we even schedule a visit.
One compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in Orlando: a CGI impact window from 2008 and a CGI impact window from 2022 may look identical from the street but take completely different glass packs. CGI changed their interlayer formulations and frame extrusion profiles over the years, and the older units are not cross-compatible with the new ones. That’s why we always measure the glass thickness with a caliper and confirm the Florida Product Approval number before we order anything.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for glass packs, we use CGI OEM or a certified CGI-compatible fabricator. We don’t cut corners with generic insulated glass that doesn’t carry the right impact rating. It’s not just about looks. A non-impact glass pack in a CGI impact frame is a code violation and a real hazard during hurricane season, and no inspector in Orange County will sign off on it. For hardware like balances, locks, and rollers, we’ll recommend quality aftermarket equivalents when they match or exceed the OEM spec and save you money.
Signs Your CGI Window Replacement Is Failing
- Condensation or haze between the panes. This is a seal failure. The argon or krypton gas has leaked out and humid Florida air has replaced it. The window still works, but the insulating value is gone, and you’ll never see a clear view through it again. Glass pack replacement is the fix.
- Fog or mineral staining on the inner glass surface. Same root cause as above, but advanced. In Orlando’s humidity, moisture between the panes eventually leaves hard-water deposits that etch the glass permanently. Waiting too long can turn a simple glass swap into a full sash replacement.
- A crack that appeared without impact. This can be thermal stress, especially on large south-facing or west-facing windows that bake in the Florida afternoon sun. The glass expands against a rigid frame and cracks along the edge. It’s a real failure, not a cosmetic one, and it will spread.
- The sash won’t close, lock, or seal. Usually a balance or roller issue. CGI sashes are heavy because of the laminated impact glass. When a balance gives out, the sash drops or won’t stay open. When a roller seizes, you have to force the sash, which bends the lock and wears the weatherstripping.
- Water stains on the drywall or sill below the window. This isn’t always the window itself; it can be the installation flashing or sealant from an old install. But on a CGI window, the most common culprit is a failed sill gasket or a torn weatherseal. Catching it early prevents rot and mold in the wall cavity.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest math for Orlando, not a national average. Every job we do comes with a written, line-item price before any work starts. You see exactly what the parts cost, exactly what the labor costs, and what the warranty covers. If the price changes once we open the wall, you approve it in writing before we touch anything else.
- Glass pack replacement (seal failure, fogged, cracked single pane): $450 to $950 installed per window, depending on size and glass package.
- Full sash replacement (frame or hardware damage beyond the glass): $700 to $1,400 installed per window.
- Complete window replacement (frame, sash, glass, new install): $1,100 to $1,850 installed per window for CGI-compatible impact-rated units.
What drives the range: glass size, whether it’s a fixed window or an operable one, the type of low-E coating (a thin metallic layer that blocks heat while letting light through), and whether we’re matching an existing frame or replacing everything. Matching an existing CGI frame with a new glass pack is almost always cheaper than a full tear-out, and it preserves the original impact certification.
Every repair we do carries a written guarantee. If the fix fails, the second visit is free. And every job falls under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. No argument, no runaround.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple things you can safely do before calling. Wipe down the glass and check if that fog is on the inside surface or between the panes. Look for the CGI etching and snap a photo of it. Check whether the window opens and closes smoothly from both sides. That tells us a lot before we even see it.
What we don’t recommend is pulling a CGI sash out of its frame yourself. These sashes are heavy. A laminated impact sash on a three-foot-by-five-foot window can weigh sixty pounds or more, and when the balance releases, it comes down hard. People break fingers and crack tiles trying to save a service call. Removing the glass from an impact-rated frame also voids the Florida Product Approval, which matters when you sell the house or when the next storm comes through.
Call us at (850) 613-9382 and describe what you’re seeing. If we can figure it out over the phone, we will. If we need to see it in person, we’ll tell you exactly who’s showing up before they get there.
FAQs
In Central Florida, a properly installed CGI impact window should give you 20 to 30 years on the frame, but glass seals typically fail between 10 and 20 years due to the intense UV exposure and humidity cycles we get in Orlando. Hardware like balances and rollers often needs replacement around the 10 to 15 year mark. That’s a normal lifespan reality for this climate, not a defect.
If your window is less than 10 years old and the seal has failed, call (850) 613-9382. It may still be under CGI’s warranty, and we can help you document the claim.
It depends on what failed. Seal failures, cracked glass, and fogged panes require a glass pack replacement. Hardware issues like locks, balances, and rollers can often be repaired with replacement parts. We’ll always tell you which one you actually need and quote you the cheaper option first if one exists. Call (850) 613-9382 for an honest assessment.
A glass pack swap on a single CGI window takes about one to two hours once the correct pack is on hand. A full sash replacement runs two to three hours. A complete window replacement, frame and all, usually takes half a day for one window. The longest lead time is often waiting for the correct CGI-matched glass to arrive if it’s not in our local stock. Call (850) 613-9382 and we’ll give you a realistic timeline based on your specific window.
We keep common CGI-compatible glass packs, balances, rollers, and hardware in our Orlando-area stock, plus we also carry parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows lines. If your part isn’t in stock, we order it directly from the manufacturer or a certified fabricator, which usually adds three to seven business days. Call (850) 613-9382 with your CGI etching photo and we’ll tell you what’s available right now.
If the numbers and the warranty language don’t back it up, I won’t say it. That’s how we quote every CGI window replacement, and it’s how we’ve been doing it since 2009. Spencer Odell and the crew at Hale Windows Orlando have replaced and repaired CGI windows all over Orlando, from older bungalows near College Park to newer builds out past Lake Nona, and we get the Florida Building Code details right the first time so you never sit through a failed inspection. Call (850) 613-9382 to schedule your free estimate. A real person answers, day or night.
