CGI Door Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
CGI door installation in Orlando typically runs $1,850 to $4,600 installed, depending on the door series and whether the frame needs full replacement. We stock CGI-compatible hardware and weatherstripping on our trucks, and most failed components can be matched and installed the same week. What brings most Orlando homeowners to this page is a door that suddenly won’t seal, a sagging hinge, or a locking mechanism that fights them every time they turn the key.
CGI doors are built for hurricane country. That’s why they’re popular across Orlando, from Windermere to Winter Park. But even the best impact-rated door has wear parts: sweeps, thresholds, hinges, rollers, multi-point lock assemblies. When those go, the door still looks strong, but it stops doing its job. And in Florida, a door that doesn’t seal is a door that’s quietly running up your AC bill while inviting moisture into the frame.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI produces several door and window lines, and parts compatibility is not universal across them. The main door series we encounter across Orlando are the Estate Collection, the Classic Collection, and the Sentinel line. Each uses different hinge weights, receiver plates, and sweep profiles. Before we order a part, we confirm the series through the manufacturer label, which CGI stamps on the hinge edge or the top rail of the slab. If that label is painted over or missing, we measure the door thickness and the exact sweep channel profile to identify what fits.
One thing to know about OEM versus aftermarket: for CGI doors still under warranty, OEM parts preserve that coverage. Aftermarket equivalents, especially sweeps and rollers from generic suppliers, often fit “close enough” and fail within a year. We’ve pulled aftermarket door sweeps from CGI doors near Baldwin Park and College Park that cracked after two seasons. The Florida heat breaks down cheap vinyl fast. We recommend OEM for structural components; for minor trim, a quality aftermarket piece is fine. Spencer Odell and our team have been matching these parts since 2009, and we’d rather tell you a part has to be ordered than install something that won’t last through two Orlando summers.
Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing
- The door sticks at the top or bottom after 3pm. West-facing Orlando doors absorb direct afternoon heat, which expands the slab. If the reveal was never set for thermal movement, you’ll feel drag every sunny day. It’s a frame-tolerance issue, not a slab problem.
- You can see daylight under the sweep or around the sides. The sweep has compressed or the weatherstripping channels have warped. This is the number-one entry point for Orlando’s heavy June rain and for energy bleed year-round.
- The multi-point lock takes two hands to engage. CGI multi-point systems have steel rods that slide into receivers in the jamb. When the door settles even an eighth of an inch, those rods stop lining up, and you’ll find yourself lifting or pulling the door to get it locked.
- Condensation or fog between the glass panels. That means the sealed unit has lost its argon fill or the seal failed. Impact-rated glass still needs a properly sealed unit to insulate; a failed seal won’t compromise impact resistance, but it will compromise energy efficiency.
- The hinges have visible wear or the door won’t stay at the angle you leave it. CGI slabs are heavy, often 80 to 120 pounds. Worn hinge pins cause a slow sag that eventually misaligns the entire lock system.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Orlando homeowners can expect for CGI door component work, installed by Hale Windows Orlando:
- Door sweep replacement: $95 to $185, including the OEM CGI sweep and labor
- Weatherstripping (full perimeter): $260 to $450
- Threshold replacement: $340 to $640, depending on the CGI series
- Hinge replacement (set of three): $220 to $410
- Multi-point lock assembly replacement: $480 to $860, including receiver alignment
- Full CGI door slab replacement: $1,850 to $4,600, depending on size, series, and finish
The range depends on the CGI series you own, whether we’re also resetting the frame, and how much of the existing hardware can be reused. Every quote includes the part, the labor, the frame adjustment, and disposal of the old hardware. We give you a written price before work starts, and every replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, Hale makes it right. No argument needed.
DIY or Call Us?
Some pieces of a CGI door are genuinely safe to inspect and even swap yourself: a screw-on sweep, a visible weatherstrip channel, a hinge screw that’s backed out. If you can see the fastener and it doesn’t involve the lock body or the glass, you can try it with basic tools.
But the multi-point lock, the receiver plates, and anything requiring the slab to come off the hinges is trade work. CGI slabs are heavy, and when a multi-point lock is out of alignment, the fix requires setting the reveal correctly, not just cranking a screw. We’ve seen Orlando homeowners strip lock bodies by forcing them. That turns a $500 alignment into an $800 lock replacement. If you’re not sure, call (850) 613-9382. We’ll tell you honestly over the phone whether it’s worth a service call.
FAQs
A properly maintained CGI door will last 20 to 30 years in Central Florida; the slab and impact glass are built for it. The components around the door (sweeps, weatherstripping, thresholds, lock assemblies) typically last 5 to 10 years depending on sun exposure and use.
In most cases, the door slab itself is fine, and the problem is a replaceable component. We replace many more sweeps, thresholds, and lock assemblies than entire slabs. Full replacement is only necessary when the slab is cracked, severely warped, or the glass seal has failed. Call (850) 613-9382 and we’ll help you figure out which situation you’re in.
Most sweeps, weatherstripping, hinge sets, and threshold replacements are done in one to two hours on-site. Multi-point lock replacements run two to three hours because we realign receivers. If a part isn’t already on our truck, we order it and schedule the install once it arrives, typically within a week.
We keep common CGI sweeps, thresholds, weatherstripping, and hardware on our trucks. Larger or series-specific components are ordered directly from CGI distributors, and we handle that entire process for you. PGT, CWS, and ES Windows parts are likewise something we source and install daily.
If your CGI door is telling you something is wrong, call (850) 613-9382 for a free estimate. We’ll give you the price before we touch anything.
